Rancho Penasquitos is a suburban community in the northeastern portion of San Diego, California. Ranch Penasquitos is named after the first Mexican land grant in the county, Rancho Santa Maria de Los Penasquitos. The word Penasquitos is translated as little cliffs in Spanish. Historically, the Native American Kumeyaay history in the area dates back some seven-thousand years ago, and remains of the prehistoric culture can still be found to this day. It was a way station on the Wagon road that ran from Warner’s Ranch from San Diego back in the 1800s, specifically from 1857 to 1860. As it stands today, Rancho Penasquitos is a beautiful suburban area that resides close to areas such as Sabre Springs, Scripps Ranch, and Carmel Mountain. The area has several notable events, such as the Mt Carmel Tournament of Bands, the BLAST Annual Rummage Soul and the BLAST Annual Golf Tournament.
