8 Hacks on Drastically Improving Your Credit Score Fast in 2021

Most of us know that your credit score is very important in your day to day life.

It can keep you from being able to buy things you want or get financed for a home of your dreams.

At the same time, you may be at a loss as to how this score is calculated, and how you can improve it if it is limiting what you can do.

There are many ways you can improve it, and many can be done as soon as possible, so you don’ have to wait long to see positive changes.

Here’s a look at some hacks to help improve your credit score, which won’t take years to accomplish.

Here's a quick rundown of our list:

Hack 1 - Don’t Be Late on Any Bills.

You need to pay all of your bills on time if you want to improve your credit score.

This is something you should be doing anyway, but it is sometimes hard to remember to do.

If you have a problem remembering when your bills are due, you can write due dates on a calendar that you’ll see each day.

Alternatively, you can set up automatic bill pay on some of your bills, if you are able to do so.

Of course, you’ll need to make sure that you have a constant balance in your account so that the amount of the bill can be taken out at any time, without you facing overdrafts or penalties.

Then you won’t have to worry about when certain bills are due since they’ll always be paid on time.

Hack 2 - Don’t Acquire Any Additional Debt.

Another good thing to do when you’re trying to work on your credit is to not acquire any debt.

This means you should refrain from getting new credit cards or charge cards of any kind.

You should also consider which cards you want to keep and which ones you want to pay off and be done with.

Experts recommend that you keep your oldest accounts open since they will have a better impact on your credit, as long as they are in good standing.

Hack 3 - Have a Plan to Cut Down Your Debts.

If you know there are certain things that you need to pay off, make a plan to do so.

Look at how much you owe and how much you are able to allot each month.

This can help you figure out how to pay down the balance of things like student loans and other large amounts in a reasonable amount of time.

Set a time limit in your mind as to how long you want to take to pay off these things and work towards your goal.

Hack 4 - Check Your Credit Report.

It is always beneficial to obtain a credit report to see what you’re working with.

You are allowed to get one free copy each year, so you should when you are able to.

This report will tell you who has checked your credit, what you owe and to whom.

It can also tell you if someone has tried to use your identity or committed any other fraud on some of your accounts.

If you find anything that is wrong with the report, you should report it immediately, or contact your creditors to see what is going on.

Many things will stay on your report for 7 years, so a mistake could affect you for a long time.

Hack 5 - Make Sure that You are Building Credit.

In order to have a good credit score, you have to be actively building credit.

Do a bit of research to see what builds credit, and see what you need to work on to do so.

It may involve getting a credit card if you don’t have one.

You are also unlikely to build credit when you’re just starting out.

The age of accounts is taken into account in your score, so it can take some time to build up at first.

Additionally, it may be a detriment if you apply for a bunch of cards in a short period of time.

It can send a bad message to the credit reporting agencies since they might consider that you have no money or not enough money to pay your bills.

Hack 6 - Pay Off Credit Cards.

Many people have more than one credit card, so it’s hard to keep track of balances and things like that.

However, it is very important to pay off your credit cards, so they are helping you build credit and not affecting your score negatively.

When your cards are paid off, you can decide if you want to leave them open or if you want to close them, depending on the situation.

Hack 7 - Keep Monitoring.

You need to monitor your credit at least every year, so you can always stay on top of things.

This will also allow you to immediately know when things change or when your credit improves.

There are 3 credit agencies that keep track of your credit, and they may have slightly different reports.

Try to get reports from all three, so you can have a better understanding of what is going on with your score.

Hack 8 - Talk With Someone.

If you feel overwhelmed or don’t know what else to do concerning your credit, you may want to speak to a financial planner or professional.

They may be able to point you in the right direction and tell you what steps you can take.

You might also be able to get advice from them on what accounts to keep open and which ones to close.

The Takeaway

Even if your credit isn’t as good as you want it to be, there are things you can do.

While some things are fairly obvious, like paying your bills on time, others may not be.

The most important is checking your credit report since it shows you everything that is affecting your score.

In other words, this will give you a good place to start to plan for your future and making sure that your score is always steady or increasing.
